Mountains are Altars
Andes y Después
Mountains are Altars
The project comprises photographs, screen-prints, collage and a self-published book that compiles the entire process, which invites us to reflect on how memory plays with landscape recreating and creating new images. It is a tribute to the timelessness of the mountains and an aesthetic reflection of what contemplating them produces in me. The project invokes its magnitude and the feeling of reverence that comes from being in front of those cathedrals of rock and ice. In the mountains I can feel the contrast between the insignificance of being and the materiality of space, between the transitory and the permanent. They suggest stillness and silence, despite being the result of chaotic natural phenomena and brutal forces. Mountains are also an intimate reference, an element of the landscape of my native place, therefore of my identity. They are a place of contemplation and self discovery.
